This is an indispensable tool for dabbing – a method of consuming some concentrated forms of THC like diamonds and live rosin. These concentrates are formed using a butane oil to extract the highly concentrated oils that are found in cannabis. The result is a product that contains at least quadruple the amount of THC found in the cannabis flower – but generally, the THC content is much higher for those concentrates that have been produced correctly and efficiently. In fact, they can be 80+% THC.

Dabbing as a method to consume THC has become more popular recently but it does have a long history, going back to the 1960’s. According to the peer reviewed article in Subst Abuse Rehabil titled, Butane hash oil and dabbing: insights into use, amateur production techniques, and potential harm mitigation:

Even though “dabbing” is often portrayed as a new trend by the popular media, its origins among American substance users can be easily traced back to the 1960s with other forms of extracts used well before that time.1 It is believed that soldiers in the Vietnam conflict would extract tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) into a liquid concentrate by using solvents such as acetone or petrol. These users would then either smear the product onto a rolling paper or saturate tobacco with the liquid concentrate.1 Another form of hashish oil called “smash” also made a brief appearance in 1967 in the United States.

Popularity Of Dabbing On The Increase

With the known medical benefits of THC becoming more widespread, the practice of dabbing has increased substantially. Of course, veteran cannabis users also enjoy dabbing for an increased effect when using for recreational purposes. It should however be done with caution for beginners because of the fact the concentrated THC can hit you very fast and hard – taking beginners by surprise. There can be negative effects that beginners should be aware of.

How To Use A Dabbing Tool

Basically, a dab tool is used to scoop just a small amount of the concentrate that you will be using with a dabbing rig. You only need a very small amount of concentrate, so the tool helps with this. The dabbing tool is then used to place your concentrate on top of the hot nail – basically a plate in the dabbing rig that is preheated with a torch.
